Shift cable upgrade

Postby ronin on Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:41 pm

After installing the new gearbox I knew I wanted to make everything as bullet proof as posable. Knowing that the stock shifter cables have a week link in the 3-4 shift movement....The cables extend out almost past the plastic guide, without any additional support the plastic guide can and will fracture resulting in loss of shifter control...add a short shifter kit into the mix shift it like a gorilla and you're screwed.....

The new upgrade is an alloy sleeve adding the extra support needed...there is no flex ... :D

You don't want to see this..

In my experience when they break they go from being shift cables to shit cables.

I had a set break in a MR2 spyder on me once and I had to drive from downtown longbeach to Torrance in 2nd gear. It was a long drive but I was lucky - theer are WAY worse gears to be stuck in than second.
Ask me if I care.....

Frank,
Any details of what you did? I broke my cable for the second time trying to get an accurate 0-60 time.

Well boys and girls the car is off to the body shop today......but.....now check this out, for smiles I wanted to double check the shifter for play and it turns out that the crossgate cable on my car is binding....not from any bends or binding that I could see, there are no marks on the cable or burns......just binding as though it had saw teeth.....what a pice of shit..

I've ordered two new cables and should have them tomorrow......
